The game table, I am glad to say, is finished.
the first piece of furniture I made, without having any instructions or measurements to begin with, in spite of the flaws I am quite satisfied with how it turned out.
Notice the bands of veneer go in opposite directions? that was the most fun to
work on. That and the sliding panels.
I've got a hunch that I will try my hand at more furniture in the future, simply because it is fun to experiment with.
And no matter the end result, you always try new ways and learn from it.
after sanding the (far too) glossy finish off, I gave the table a veneered skirt and put a matt varnish on. imho the skirt brings the table more in proportion.
The matte varnish is a lot better to my liking. It is the same varnish that was used on the bookcases in the library, it has a bit of a yellow-ish shine to it what doesn't make it look so new.
After that the table was smeared with a dark wax and then rubbed with a soft cloth.
So that is the game table.
Now off to new adventures.
By the way, have you all seen John's (Merriman Park) centerfold pages :p in Miniaturas magazine? super! Again congratulations, John! (if you haven't, make sure you take a look!).
The past year so far has been very chaotic; I tried to work on minis so often, but every time I sat down to get started something more important came up.
That is why I posted so many pics of the gametable, when I show a lot of pics, maybe I can fool some of you in believing I actually worked hard on minis all summer ;) :D
Just kidding, hope I have some new stuff to show you in the next post.
Hope you'll all have a lovely weekend!
hugs,
Gee
Your game table turned out wonderful, Gee! Enjoy making more furniture, after three years of making furniture I can truly say that I am still continiously learning on each piece and finding new or better ways to do something. You certainly have a gift for furniture making, and I am looking forward to see what you are going to make in the future!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenHello Elga,
VerwijderenContrary to what I expected it was a lot of fun working on this table.
I've already been thinking about other furniture pieces but going to work on the bedchamber/powder room first.
That means a lot of silk; in some weird way
I need that change of materials to keep stimulated.
Anyway, thanks for your lovely comment!
Hugs,
Gee
Wow!!! You can be very proud of your self Gee! That is some really intricate veneering you've done here. It looks amazing, and to think it's your first ever attempt to making furniture, i'm excited to see you venture further.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenps. i've 'fixed' your respond, expect a PM soon :)
Hoi Debora!
VerwijderenThanks so much for your sweet comment; it is a nice material to work with and fun to do, like making a puzzle.
When I'am done responding on the comments I will PM you
Hugs,
Gee
Hi Gee! This game table is a real beauty, it is outstanding work! Glad you've found a solution for the shiny varnish look. This is a fantastic result, also that you've put some dark wax on the table: it beautifully shows the detail of all the wood work.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThank you for mentioning John's blog, I've visited his blog and I've read the article too. It is a gorgeous house and surely worth to publish.
Have a lovely weekend too. Hugs, Ilona
Hi Ilona!
VerwijderenYes, isn't John's blog eyecandy? I'm an absolute addict.
Nederlands tikt wel ff lekkerder weg, he?
groetjes,
Gee
Dear Gee,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenWhat a masterpiece! Your game table. Time and inspiration is a problem sometimes.
Hugs Dorien
Dear Dorien,
Verwijderentrust me, in my household it always is :))

I hope you are well

The gametable is magnificent work. Very precious with all the tiny inlaid pieces of woodveneer.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI wonder what your new project will be.....:-)
Hi Liduina,
VerwijderenThanks for your nice comment! The next project will be the bedchamber and powder room. I have tried so often to make a start with that, now that is the first thing to do on my list :)
hugs,
Gee

BeantwoordenVerwijderenThank you, Jane!
VerwijderenHugs,

Jaaa, mooi geworden Gee!
groeten,
Gee
Hi Gee,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenOMG, what a spectacular table! This is one of your FIRST mini furniture projects? I am amazed. The inlay is gorgeous and I'm glad you went with a matte finish. Now all you need are four matching chairs!
Thanks for the shout-out!
XOXO,
John
Hi John,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYes,that shiny finish looked really, really horrible. The chairs, yep, that is another issue.
I've got kits lying around somewhere for making chairs but I've had them for so long, and held that packages in my hands so often that now I am leaning towards being fed up with them LOL.
So don't know about that yet.
But I am babbling away again :).
Thanks for your ever so nice comment!
Hugs,
Gee
